Prologue

Jannat's POV

Delhi, India

After completing some emails and reviewing a few important documents, I checked the time. It was already 1:30 a.m. My stomach growled in protest. I hadn’t eaten dinner, too caught up with everything happening in my life. The house felt too big, too empty tonight.

I went downstairs to the kitchen, hoping that cooking might calm my nerves. After staring at the fridge for a while, I decided on white sauce pasta—comfort food, something simple and soothing.

“Finally, it’s ready. Oh God, it looks yummy,” I whispered to myself, smiling faintly as I picked up the steaming plate.

But the moment I stepped inside my room, everything changed.

The flower vase was shattered on the floor, glass scattered across the carpet. My bedsheet had been torn and thrown aside, the curtains ripped. And in the middle of it all stood him—silent, masked, holding a gun.

The plate slipped from my hands, crashing to the ground. My heart pounded so violently I thought it might burst.

He didn’t speak. His silence was more terrifying than words.

When he began to move toward me, slow and purposeful, every inch of me screamed to run. But my legs wouldn’t move. Then, in a blur, he tripped—whether by accident or not, I couldn’t tell. But it gave me a chance.

I darted for the door, slammed it shut, locked it from the outside, and ran downstairs with trembling hands. I yanked the front door open—only to stumble back in horror.

The guards. My guards. They were all lying lifeless on the ground, eyes wide open, staring at nothing.

“No… no…” I whispered, stumbling backward.

I ran. Barefoot, breathless, through the empty streets. My mind screamed one name—Avyaan. He was the only one who could help me.

But when I looked over my shoulder, he was still there. Always there. Silent. Following.

Up ahead, I saw a car. Hope surged, and I ran to it, banging on the window, begging the driver to help me. He nodded, letting me in, and I scrambled inside, gasping for air.

Then a gunshot cracked the night. The driver slumped forward, lifeless.

I froze, paralyzed.

The door on the other side opened, and he was there looking like the Lucifer, who was here to suck life out of me. His hand clamped onto my arm, twisting it until I cried out in pain.

“Please… please, I don’t even know you. Let me go,” I begged, tears streaming down my face.

He didn’t answer.

I struggled, sobbed, fought—but then a sharp sting hit my neck. My body went weak, the world blurring into nothing.

The last thing I saw were his eyes. Watching me. Like I belonged to him.
